Chief of staff to the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Harlem leader, and a key strategist behind civil rights protests in the 1960s

The Reverend Wyatt Tee Walker has been a long-time friend of South Africa. He helped supervise South Africa's first fully representative elections in 1994, when Nelson Mandela's rise to power ushered in the end of the apartheid regime. One of Nelson Mandela's stops in New York City as President of South Africa was the worship service at Canaan Baptist Church of Christ.

In 1999, The Rev. Tee Walker was instrumental in establishing the Sisulu-Walker Charter School (named for Dr. Walker and the South African anti-apartheid leader Walter Sisulu).
